Welcome WalkBikeMarin is an initiative by the County of Marin to help make Marin more healthy, livable, and environmentally sustainable by encouraging walking and bicycling as everyday transportation. This initiative was catalyzed by a recent $25 million federal grant to fund the Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program (NTPP). The goal of the WalkBikeMarin website is to provide information about all the County’s bicycle and pedestrian projects and programs in one place. How often do you walk and bike? Between walking and biking, I’m out nearly every day. What are the reasons that you walk and bike? Commuting, local trips for shopping and meetings, and just for fun. Walking and biking also allows me a fun way to get in a little exercise during the course of a busy day. Why is walking important to you? Walking and biking provides me with the opportunity to engage with my community in a way that I couldn’t behind the wheel of a car. I can stop and talk to neighbors about issues and feel and smell the changing of the seasons or who is cooking what for breakfast or dinner. Why do you think biking is important to Marin County? Climate change is real. I believe each of us bears a personal responsibility to make changes in our lives that will move us to cleaner and greener living. One car free day every week or month is a good way to demonstrate our commitment to reducing greenhouse gasses. view past profiles > |
