Lights On brightens Marin County streets

Posted: 2009-11-09

On October 29th and November 3rd, the WalkBikeMarin Lights On campaign paid visits to local multi-use paths and helped bicyclists stay bright in the face of darker autumn weather.  Planned to for the weeks before and after the end of daylight savings time, the Lights On campaign distributed free front and rear bike lights to cyclists and reminded them of the importance of being visible.  In total, WalkBikeMarin staff provided bicycle lights to over 50 cyclists, including complimentary installation.  Lights On also distributed free T-shirts, stickers and posters to cyclists promoting the message of safe and visible bicycling.

WalkBikeMarin would like to take this opportunity to remind cyclists of the importance of staying bright during the fall and winter.  California law requires all bicycles to be outfitted with a white front light visible from at least 300 feet, and a red rear reflector visible from at least 500 feet (though a rear light is preferred).  Look for Lights On to return to Marin County in 2010.
