Local bike company designs bike to replace family minvan

Posted: 2010-04-16

Since 2006, the mission of WalkBikeMarin has been to encourage people to walk and bike more often, for everyday transportation, to improve the health, livability and sustainability of Marin County.  Local business Yuba Bicycles has a similar goal.  Founded by Marin resident Ben Sarrazin, Yuba has been building sturdy, utilitarian bicycles from their headquarters in Sausalito, also since 2006.

Yuba produces one bike, the Mundo, so named because it was designed to meet the mobility needs of people all around the world.  Sarrazin designed the Mundo after a trip to Africa where he saw people using rickety bicycles to carry huge loads of cargo to market.  His goal was to develop a practical bicycle that could accommodate people’s everyday transportation needs, such as carrying children and groceries.  The Mundo’s unique frame has an integrated rear rack that can carry loads up to 440 pounds while maintaining good handling.

Yuba’s timing couldn’t be better. As more people in Marin County look to bicycles for transportation, cargo bicycles have become the fastest growing segment of the bicycle market.  You can learn more about the Mundo at YubaRide.com, or visit the Yuba blog to see what other folks are saying about the Mundo.
