Dixie School Walks Across America

Posted: 2007-05-04

Dixie School is starting a fun new program called "Walk Across America." Students wear pedometers and track the number of steps they take. The school maps the number of steps and shows a map, updated daily, with how far "across America" the students have walked. Their goal is 17 million steps in 10 days.

School activities will highlight the many ways students can be active and learn healthy exercise and eating habits. Students are encouraged to take stairs instead of elevators, spend time at home being active instead of playing computer games, and go on walks with family and friends.

Dixie School reports that in their first day alone students have already taken 3,933,467 steps! They are well on our way to achieving their goal of walking across America.

The Walk Across America program is a national program by Joy of Sports.
