Posted: 2011-06-01

The County of Marin Department of Public Works just completed its 4th Annual Bicycle & Pedestrian Count and Survey to learn just how many women, children, and men are biking and walking throughout Marin County.

The study collected data at 23 locations within Marin's 11 cities and towns, and the unincorporated areas of the county.  The summary report is available here.  Click 2010 Full Report (13.7 MB) [pdf ].

Results of the bike and ped counts show weekday bicycling rates increasing an average of 46% between 2007 and 2010, and 135% since 1999!  On weekends, bicycling increased an average of 85% between 2007 and 2010, and an unbelievable 159% since 1999!

Public Works Director, Farhad Mansourian, commented, "We are pleased to have the financial resources to be building these facilities that Marin residents and visitors are using."
