• Since the program began, there has been an 8 percent shift from single-student car trips to walking, bicycling, riding public transit and carpooling.
Since 2000, the program has used a variety of federal, state, regional and local programs to build sidewalks, improve crossings and install ramps in curbs, among other steps, to make walking and biking to school easier. It also provides education within schools and crossing guards, among other resources.
