Bicycle Speed Sensors Added to GGB Sidewalk

Posted: 2012-02-22

ADVISORY BICYCLE SPEED SENSORS ADDED TO BRIDGE SIDEWALK

As an aid to cyclists to better track, monitor, and police their own speeds while crossing the Golden Gate Bridge sidewalks, the first bike-speed sensor was placed at the north end of the west sidewalk in December 2011.

After several weeks of testing and calibrating the sensor, it is now tracking well. We plan to add at least one more on the east sidewalk in the next few weeks, and possibly more in the future (to be determined). The idea is to have the sensors out where they can assist cyclists in monitoring their own speeds. The sensors are advisory in nature and we trust that they contribute to assisting in cyclists self-regulating their speeds on the sidewalks.
