Posted: 2012-02-23

There is a train - and bicycle pathway - coming to town!

SMART officially breaks ground on the first phase of the train and bicycle pathway.
Construction of SMART's first phase of the train and bicycle pathway system is underway, and you're invited to help us kickoff the start of the SMART Rail and Bicycle Pathway Project, a vital investment for the future of Sonoma and Marin Counties. This is your train!  You voted for the project and the SMART Board invites you to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Friday, February 24th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM
Downtown Petaluma SMART Station
Petaluma Depot, 210 Lakeville St.

Dignitaries attending will include Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, Congressman Mike Thompson, State Senator Mark Leno, State Senator Noreen Evans, Assemblymember Jared Huffman, Assemblymember Wesley Chesbro, and Assemblymember Michael Allen. There will be secure bicycle parking available.
If you are taking transit, the Copeland Street station is nearby (visit for schedules).  General parking is also available nearby.

Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is a passenger train and multi-use pathway project located in San Francisco’s North Bay.

SMART will provide rail service along 70 miles of the historic Northwestern Pacific Railroad alignment, connecting urban and rural residents of the two counties with jobs, education and health care services in the region. The project revives the long-dormant but publicly owned railroad right of way, serving 14 stations from Cloverdale in Sonoma County to the San Francisco-bound ferry terminal in Larkspur, Marin County.
