Tune Up in Time for Spring Riding - Basic Skills Classes Posted: 2012-03-07 This introductory and refresher course is perfect for everyone. Basic Street Skills is a 2 hour in-classroom course covering the basics for how to choose the right bike and properly fit a helmet as well as tips for the safest ways to ride in traffic. Also covered are techniques to avoid road hazards and emergency maneuvers, along with biking rights and responsibilities. This class is open to adults and anyone over 16 years of age. Cyclists that receive a citation/infraction on a bicycle that is a "California Vehicle Code violation" are permitted by the Marin County Court to attend a Basic Street Skills class to reduce the citation fee. Pre-registration and pre-payment ($40 per person; $30 MCBC members) is required in advance. The next Basic Street Skills class will be held at Marin General Hospital, Conference Room, Room from 6:30 to 8:30pm on Tuesday, March 6th. The current schedule for 2012 is listed below. Thursday May 24th 6:30 to 8:30pm Thursday July 12th 6:30 to 8:30pm Thursday September 6th 6:30 to 8:30pm Tuesday November 6th 6:30 to 8:30pm The class is implemented by the Marin County Bicycle Coalition in their ongoing effort to improve bicycle safety in Marin County.
