New Bridge Over Sir Francis Drake Open! Posted: 2016-05-23 The new bike and pedestrian bridge over East Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and connecting path to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal is now open. The project extends the Cal Park Tunnel path (Route 5) southward over East Sir Francis Drake and touches down at the Corte Madera Creek path (Route 20) while a new and widenend Corte Madera Creek path is provided from the boardwalk to the west under the freeway to the ferry terminal to the east. The bridge structure is modeled on the ferry terminal's canopy, with white trusses. At the point where the bridge drops down to the creek path there is a landing with benches and views to the south of Corte Madera Creek, marshlands, and Mt. Tam. The bridge and path are lit at night so it's a great faciltity that can be used 24 hours. It provides a safe, grade separated crossing of East Sir Francis Drake, removing the challenge of having to cross ESFD at the busy Larkspur Landing Circle intersection. It's now possible to get from the ferry terminal or Bon Air Center to Andersen Drive in San Rafael without having to cross any streets! The bridge will also provide access to the ferry terminal from the Larkspur SMART rail station, scheduled to open in a few years. Press Room |
