Los Ranchitos Bike Lane Project Meeting, 2/26 at 7 pm Posted: 2008-02-19 The Marin County Department of Public Works is hosting a community presentation on the Los Ranchitos Connector Class 2 Bicycle Lanes Project to be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Chambers (Room 330) on the third floor of the Marin County Civic Center. The project will provide new bicycle lanes along Los Ranchitos Road between Ranch Road and Lincoln Avenue. The result will be a continuous Class 2 bicycle facility connecting downtown San Rafael (via the new Puerto Suello Class 1 pathway currently under construction as part of the Highway 101 Gap Closure project) to the Terra Linda neighborhood and communities to the north. The presentation is an opportunity for the community to learn about the project and comment on the design plans. According to Supervisor Susan Adams, “This important non-motorized connector between north and central San Rafael will help to bring a unified sense of community to the residents of San Rafael and at the same time help bring the county one step further toward completing the vision for a fully integrated north/south non-motorized route through Marin” The Los Ranchitos Connector project is part of the Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program (NTPP), a federal transportation program which provides $25 million each to Marin County and three other communities in the Midwest to evaluate whether construction of bicycle and pedestrian facilities, along with educational and outreach programs, can encourage bicycling and walking as a means to reduce automobile trips.
